Passion and Resurrection
Our first concert for 2016 contains two magnificent Easter-themed works.
Seven Last Words from the Cross
James Macmillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross was commissioned by the BBC in 1994. Scored for choir and string orchestra, Seven Last Words is both a meditation on Christ’s suffering and also an intense drama in which the composer explores the words in a very personal way. It is a riveting musical journey from first note to last.
Passion and Resurrection
Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds wrote his Passion and Resurrection in 2005. In a series of four tableaux, and with a diverse selection of texts, Passion and Resurrection moves through moments of great drama towards a luminous and unforgettable conclusion.
Gloriana is thrilled to be presenting the Melbourne premiere of Passion and Resurrection.
